The IRS reminds us not to fall for con artists claiming to be from the IRS.  Most of the scams involve attempts to get bank account information from people.  The IRS never asks for things like PIN numbers or account passwords, and the IRS never initiates contact with a taxpayer via e-mail.  The official IRS website is  IRS websites ending in anything other than .gov are not official.  The IRS says you can always verify whether someone claiming to be from the IRS really is from the IRS by calling (800) 829-1040.
